A message from the Principal

A message from the Principal

Greetings Parents and Caregivers

I trust that your family has enjoyed the holiday period and that the return to school routines has been smooth. You might have heard that our term ended with a special Easter chapel that reminded us all to give glory to God, particularly for Jesus’ death and resurrection. I had the opportunity to interview my son-in-law Max King who plays for the Bulldogs (NRL) who shared his faith story as a professional athlete, and boldly declared ‘to God be the glory’.

I’m happy to report that I’ve been monitoring our new entry and exit traffic plan into the drop off and pick up zone for the past two weeks, and it has gone well. A reminder to please not park on the roadway leading to the carpark or in the white parking bays as staff will need them. Yellow carparks are available for visitors from 8.40 am – 2.30 pm, and after 3.30 pm. Thank you for your cooperation.

The recent federal election results have provided feedback to all political parties of what Australians really think about their beliefs and actions.  1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”  Let’s keep praying for all in authority, especially our various levels of government.

As a school we’re entering our annual ‘voting’ season in the form of our QAS (Quality Adventist Schools) School Improvement surveys that will be given to staff, students (from year 3-12) and parents between May 19-30. You should have received an initial email recently.

Unlike our compulsory voting system in Australia, our QAS School Improvement surveys are voluntary, and we strive to get 90% of students and staff to respond. Historically, parent surveys don’t get a large response, and I’m hoping for much more because the results will inform our School Improvement journey for the next three years. The Survey seeks to measure: the quality of our teamwork, the strength of our daily practices, and, most importantly, how well our students are flourishing.

I want to give a special mention of one of the most important authority figures in our lives – our mums! Thank you, mums and all female carers, for all you do, and may you feel loved and cherished, not just this Mother’s Day, but every day! A big shout out to our Home and School volunteers for hosting a special afternoon tea to honour our mums on Friday, 9 May.

God bless

Chaplaincy Update

Chaplaincy Update

Yesterday, one of our 5 chapel bands had the opportunity to visit Macquarie College for a chapel tour. Our students took charge, running two chapel services where they preached, sang, and hosted the entire event. This initiative empowers our students, giving them the chance to shine and share their faith with peers in our sister schools. The experience was enriching for everyone involved, fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth for our students, and we hope – a lasting impression on the Macquarie college students.

Looking ahead, Week of Worship is just around the corner in Week 5 (May 26-31). We will be hosting morning sessions in Fox Valley Church, where parents are welcome to join us and enjoy a coffee provided by our student pastoral care team. Additionally, we are excited to offer three evening services from Wednesday to Friday, starting at 6:30 PM. Wednesday night will feature free food, Thursday night will have a pizza fundraiser for our Fiji mission trip in September, and Friday night will again offer free food. We invite everyone to come and be part of this special time of worship and fellowship.

In 1 Timothy 4:12, Paul encourages young believers, saying, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." Our chapel tour and the upcoming Week of Worship embody this message. By empowering our students to lead and serve, we are nurturing their faith and allowing them to be examples to others.

As we continue to support and uplift each other, let us remember that every act of service, no matter how small, contributes to the work that God has given us.

Stage 1 Science: Living Things

Stage 1 Science: Living Things

We are thrilled to share the exciting news from our Stage 1 Science class! Our students have been learning about living things, and we recently embarked on a wonderful journey of hatching chickens.

The process began with carefully placing the eggs into the incubator, where we monitored them closely. Each day, the students have been eagerly checking the incubator, learning about the conditions necessary for the eggs to develop. We also took a moment to say a special prayer for the eggs, hoping for a successful hatch.

A huge thank you to Pr. Daron for his invaluable help and guidance throughout this project. His expertise and support have made this learning experience truly memorable for everyone involved.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to wait for our chicks to grow and learn more about the fascinating world of living things!

Stage 1 Writing: Wombat Stew

Stage 1 Writing: Wombat Stew

Our Year 1 & 2 students have been diving into the world of procedure writing, and this week, we had an especially fun and tasty project!

We read the delightful story "Wombat Stew" and then created our own procedures for making this unique dish. The students enjoyed writing step-by-step instructions, learning how to clearly communicate each part of the process.

The highlight of the week was making and eating our own edible Wombat Stew! We used chocolate custard as the "mud" and added a variety of fun toppings to represent flies, gumnuts, creepy crawlies, and feathers. It was a delicious and educational experience that everyone loved. Great job, Stage 1!

Language Ambassador

Language Ambassador

On April 3, we received the exciting news that Nicholas  L, Year 11, has been chosen by The NSW School of Languages (NSL) as a Language Ambassador for 2025. Nicholas is currently studying both Chinese Beginners and Japanese Beginners by distance at NSL and was chosen as an ambassador for his ‘exceptional application and dedication’ to his language studies. We wish Nicholas all the best for his Language Ambassador journey and hope that his contributions make a positive impact to both his own personal growth, and to the school community.

Year 11 Regional da Vinci Decathlon

Year 11 Regional da Vinci Decathlon

The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition that occurs at the levels of regional, statewide, national, and international. Our school has the honour of sending multiple teams from Years 7-11 to compete in respective state and regional competitions. The challenges take place throughout the day, and during this, students are required to test their academic limits and utilise creative and teamwork skills to work through an array of scholastic disciplines. This event emphasises the importance of working as a team to strive for excellence and a common goal, creating students fit for life after schooling, whilst also promoting academic enthusiasm. Furthermore, this event was an honour to participate in, and I would strongly recommend the experience to any other students with a passion for teamwork, learning, and creativity.

Sydney Academy of Chess Interschool competition

Sydney Academy of Chess Interschool competition

At the end of term one, April 2nd, our students participated in a chess competition that showcased the skills and determination. Our students displayed remarkable courage and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Despite many of them lacking regular chess training, they represented our school with dignity and respect. Their efforts culminated in a thrilling tie with Masada College for third place after five intense games, highlighting the potential that exists within our student body.

We believe it is important to recognize these 10 students for their achievements and dedication.

Furthermore, this event serves as a stepping stone towards fostering a greater interest in chess at our school. We hope to encourage more students to join our chess club, especially as we consider introducing an intermediate/advanced chess class with a qualified coach.

By showcasing our students’ enthusiasm for chess, we aim to attract even more participants in the future.

Let us continue to support and nurture the talents of our students, as they embark on their journey in the world of chess.

Last term we had a fantastic turnout of parents, grandparents, carer volunteers, SRC students and prefects for our Easter Chapel.

Home and School would like to thank all the volunteers as they were amazing. It is always good to give honour where honour is due.

We would also like to thank our Principal, Mr Craig Young for inviting his son in law Bull Dogs player Max King, who kindly shared his testimony with our students and inspired them to not be ashamed of who they are and what they believe.

Always terrific when there are godly role models for students to aspire to.

Are you interested in hosting an exchange student?

We are looking to grow our host family community with families of all shapes and sizes.

It doesn’t matter if you are a single-parent family, have several children or all of your children have grown up and left home.

Anyone generous enough to open their home and heart to a new family member and be willing to embrace differences in culture and language can host.

What our host families do have in common is excitement and enthusiasm for meeting someone who speaks another language and the unique opportunity to see Australia through the eyes of their exchange student.

Our students are ready to develop their independence, self-confidence and maturity, make new friends, improve their English language skills, become part of a new family and immerse themselves in our unique Australian way of life.  In turn, hosting can provide your family with an international perspective of the world, add some fun to your family environment, improve tolerance and respect for different cultures, provide an opportunity to build lifelong relationships and enhance foreign language skills.

See our website for more information. If this sounds like something you’d like for your family, please contact Students of the World at 08 8379 5726 or [email protected] .
