From the Principal
How often have you had those, “I’m so proud of you” moments? And no, I’m not talking about the Olympics, although there are lots of ‘proud to be Australian’ moments in the pool and beyond.
I’ve had a few of them this week. A Year 12 girl spoke with such conviction to staff about how God empowers us to guide others, that she reminded me of a seasoned educator. The students showcasing their music and art talent at the CAPA Night transported me to another world – just wonderful! And each morning the secondary chapel team have served with compassion and love.
Such incredible talent we have in our midst – how proud I am to be part of this learning community. It has been an incredible start to the term, from planting in the gully behind the school, as part of National Tree Day to seeing creative HSC Technology projects nearing completion.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children. The staff and I are proud to serve them, to teach them and to learn with them. Together we provide a firm foundation for our students. As they grow and explore, may they find a life filled with meaning and purpose. A life to be proud of.
God bless
Mrs Julia Heise - Principal
Chaplain's Message
Welcome back!
As a chaplaincy team we hope that you all had the opportunity to create new memories with your kids over the school holidays. The holiday highlight for our team was our first year 10 STORMCo trip! 35 amazing young students from our school and 5 staff travelled to Waratah in Tasmania, a remote 249 person town in the middle of the wilderness. Our young people had such a fun time and the town loved them! The people of Waratah are already excited our next trip in 2025.
We are now heading towards our year 11 Fiji service trip! Thank you to all who attended our CAPA night and supported the Fiji fundraising team by purchasing food.
Last week was also our High School week of worship! Our American guest preacher Pr Ron Sydney led our student body on such a great journey toward seeing Jesus as our firm foundation amongst all the competing messages and tensions in our lives over the week. We have loved seeing the students take part and laugh, sing, and even shed a few tears over the week.
Until next time, God bless you and your family!

School Sports Australia Swimming Championships
Congratulations to Salani S who competed at the School Sports Australia Swimming Championships, representing the NSW All Schools Team at the Gold Coast, 27 - 31 July.
It was a hectic week of sporting activity on the Gold Coast, as Hockey, Netball, Australian Football, Softball and Basketball are all held at the same time. The atmosphere was like the Schools Olympics, with the inclusion of international teams from Fiji and Cook Islands.
After a big week of training hard, making new friendships and racing in the pool, Salani achieved a bronze medal for 100m backstroke, a silver for 200m medley relay and 6th place in the 50m backstroke.
Salani will be representing Samoa at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships, to be held in Canberra in a few weeks’ time.
Ice Hockey Championships U13
Congratulations to Alex McKay (Year 5) represented NSW as goaltender, competing in the U13 Ice Hockey Championships during the school holidays. Alex’s team had a great run in Newcastle but went down to Victoria in the grand finals, to come away with Silver.

Goodbye and thank you to Raelean
It was with sadness that we say a fond farewell to the wonderful Raelean who worked as our Marketing Coordinator for the last 18 months. She is moving on to work in a field which she loves and can use her creative flair daily, which benefited us so much during her time at school. We wish her well in her new position and hope she is successful and happy there. She will be missed.

National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
Each year, all schools in Australia take part in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). This process involves schools gathering existing information about the support they provide to students with disabilities (and learning difficulties). The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability. For more information, see below.
Dear parents, guardians and carers
Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
* year of schooling
* category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
* level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
* formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
* consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
* develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy ( https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy ).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal ( https://www.nccd.edu.au ).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
Kind regards
Principal

Paris Olympic Fever
Last weekend marked the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics. To celebrate the opening ceremony, 2A made their very own Olympic torches. Through this week, we have been eager to check the medal tally each morning and add the Australian medals to our graph. Go Australia!
Stage 1 Science
This week, Stage 1 began our new Science topic, ‘Look, Listen’. We used our 5 senses to investigate a popcorn kernel, recording the changes we noticed from the unpopped popcorn to popped popcorn. Our favourite part was using our fifth sense of ‘taste’ and tasting the final popped popcorn!

CAPA Evening
CAPA Evening
In a vibrant celebration of creativity and collaboration, our school recently hosted an extraordinary event that brought together the harmonious worlds of music and visual arts.
The "CAPA creative" display held at Fox Valley church, was a mesmerizing showcase of the talents of our students, demonstrating the power of art in its various forms. The hall was transformed into a gallery, with walls adorned with an array of student artworks. From abstract paintings to detailed sketches, each piece reflecting the unique perspective and skill of the student.
The school's orchestra, choir, and various solo performers took the stage, creating a dynamic auditory experience that perfectly complemented the visual spectacle. The music ranged from classical pieces to contemporary hits, showcasing the versatility and talent of our young musicians.
The "CAPA creative" display was not only a platform for showcasing talent but also a testament to the importance of integrating arts into education. This event emphasized the role of the arts in fostering creativity, critical thinking, and emotional expression among students.
The success of the event was made possible by the dedication of our art and music teachers, who tirelessly guided the students in preparing for this showcase. Their efforts, combined with the enthusiasm and hard work of the students, resulted in an unforgettable evening that left a lasting impression on all who attended.
As the final notes of the last musical performance faded and the lights dimmed on the completed art displays, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment and joy in the air. The "CAPA Creative" display was more than just an event; it was a celebration of the boundless creativity and collaboration within our school, setting the stage for even more artistic endeavours in the future.

Year 10 Women in STEMM
Year 10 Women in STEMM
Women in STEMM
Some of our students were given the opportunity to attend the SAN Clinical Education Centre for a Women in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine) seminar. It was hosted by the San Foundation in conjunction with the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Australian National University, and Avondale College of Nursing.
The seminar featured engaging presentations from leading professionals in various STEMM fields including:
Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, ENT Surgeon, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.
"The STEMM seminar was truly an unforgettable experience. The speakers were really humorous, empowering us to pursue a STEMM-related pathway. They shared their journey on becoming who they are today and briefly explained their job responsibilities. The speakers have certainly inspired me, and I am sure that they have inspired and encouraged many others to go into a STEMM field as well."
Aojie L (Year 10)
“On the 31st of July myself and some of my female peers had the privilege of participating in a program for women in STEMM run by the San Foundation. We heard from many different speakers, ranging from women such as Dr Emily Granger (Cardiothoracic Surgeon) to Eliza Kenny (Senior Director of Operations). Overall, the seminar was eye-opening to the word of STEMM particularly with its focus for women in these professions. I’m thankful for the experience and highly recommend to girls who are looking at careers is STEMM.”
