WOW! Term Three is progressing rapidly, and I am pleased to highlight some of the key events from the past week. One annual highlight has been the Primary School Week of Worship (WOW). I attended the daily sessions, which featured creative and engaging student-centred elements aligned with the Story Keepers theme. These presentations exemplified the dedication of early Christians to sharing the life-giving messages and miracles of Jesus, the Saviour of the world. Our chaplains, along with Year 6 teachers and students, deserve commendation for their outstanding efforts in making this WOW a memorable experience.
Our annual Secondary School CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts) Showcase showcased the remarkable talent, dedication, and hard work of our CAPA students and staff. It served as an excellent opportunity for students to share their creative talents with our school community. We thank the parents of participating students for their ongoing support, which are vital to fostering student excellence.
Looking ahead, Parent-Teacher Interviews provide an excellent opportunity for parents and teachers to review student progress and plan for future growth. Due to parking limitations, the interviews have been scheduled on separate days for primary and secondary students this year. The Primary School Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place on Wednesday, 3 September, from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM. An email has been sent to primary parents and bookings are underway, and an email for secondary school interviews detailing the times and date will be sent out shortly. Parking will be available in the Wahroonga church and school carparks.
Please enjoy the various activities and opportunities highlighted in this newsletter, reflecting the vibrant engagement of our students and staff.
Thank you for your continued support.
God bless,
Craig Young

Chaplain's Message
The Story Keepers
The Story Keepers
What an incredible season it’s been for our Chaplaincy Team! Here are some highlights from two recent events that have blessed our students and community.
First, the High School Worship Night was an incredible night! We took 54 high school students to Hills Adventist College to connect with peers from other Sydney Adventist schools for an evening of worship, socialising, and spiritual growth. Our students connected and returned inspired and energised. This event has strengthened our High School Chapel Team’s vision. It also challenged our students to deepen their faith and commitment to our school’s spiritual journey. We’re very grateful for the enthusiasm and vibrancy of our students!
A major highlight in our Primary School space was our annual Primary Week of Worship, which was led by Pr Renee who directed our talented Year 6 cohort under the theme “The Story Keepers". The Drama followed Christian Bakers and Orphaned kids in Ancient Rome, bravely sharing Jesus’ stories despite Emperor Nero’s opposition. The Year 6 worship team created an original song, “Lift Your Voice,” which became our theme song and will soon be released on Spotify ! From leading worship to roles like crew members, hosts, preachers, and prayer team, our Year 6 students embraced every opportunity to grow in skill and character. Our chaplaincy team enjoyed mentoring students in all these teams and have been so energised by their commitment, creativity and development. We even had special performances from other primary classes, alongside inspiring messages from Pastor SJ, who encouraged our students to be bold “Story Keepers” of the Gospel.
We recognise that we don’t stand alone, but with God, we have the support of our students, teachers, parents, and church community. Your prayers and active support has made these events truly unforgettable and together, we’re excited of how God is present here with us Wahroonga Adventist School. “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

Stage 1 Science
Stage 1 Science
This week in Science, Stage 1 students explored the fascinating concept of refraction — how light bends when it passes through water. We completed some fun hands-on experiments, including placing a straw in a glass of water and observing how it looked “bent” or “broken.” We also drew pictures and arrows, placed them behind a glass of water, and watched how their appearance changed.
Students were amazed to see how light behaves differently when it travels through water, helping us understand more about the science of light and how we see the world around us!

Year 2 Coding Adventures
Year 2 Coding Adventures
This week, 2A explored the world of coding using Sphero Indi bots! Students created coloured patterns to represent different movements and programmed their bots to navigate around a series of obstacles. There was lots of excitement as they tested, tweaked, and perfected their codes.
It was wonderful to see such teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity as students worked together to guide their cars successfully through the course!

Primary Sport
Primary Sport
Primary sport had an outstanding week, with both Stage 2 and Stage 3 students proudly representing our school.
Our Stage 2 team competed in the Adventist Schools Newcombe Ball Gala Day, going through the entire day undefeated. Their hard work, teamwork, and determination paid off as they secured a thrilling win in the grand final, bringing home the championship!
Meanwhile, our Stage 3 girls took part in the CSSA Zone Netball Gala Day. They faced tough competition but never gave up, displaying excellent skills, teamwork, and school spirit in every game.
Across both events, our students demonstrated resilience, pride, and a true sense of sportsmanship. We are so proud of every player who stepped onto the court and gave it their all.

Women in STEMM Event at the SAN Hospital
Women in STEMM Event at the SAN Hospital
Our Year 10 and 11 students recently had the privilege of attending the Women in STEMM program at the Sydney Adventist Hospital’s Clinical Education Centre. STEMM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine, and this event brought together students from ten different schools to celebrate and explore the exciting opportunities within these fields.
Hosted by the SAN Foundation, the program provided our students with a unique opportunity to hear from extraordinary female professionals who are leaders in their fields. Through inspiring talks and an engaging panel discussion, students were able to ask questions, gain valuable insights, and explore the wide-ranging and rewarding possibilities a career in STEMM can offer.
Moments like these play a crucial role in inspiring the next generation of innovators, leaders, and changemakers. We are honoured that our students were able to take part in this empowering event and look forward to seeing how it shapes their aspirations for the future.

CAPA Evening
CAPA Evening
What an unforgettable evening of talent and inspiration! Our recent Creative & Performing Arts Night brought together students, families, and the community for a dazzling celebration of artistic expression. From heartfelt and dynamic music performances, the languages display and breathtaking visual art creations, every moment was filled with creativity and passion.
We give thanks to God for blessing us with such incredible talent and the opportunity to come together in celebration. A huge thank you also goes out to our dedicated teachers, whose guidance and encouragement helped our students shine on stage and in the gallery. Your commitment to nurturing creativity truly made this event possible. We also want to express our deepest gratitude to the parents and families—your support, encouragement, and enthusiasm are the backbone of our students’ success.
This night was more than just a showcase—it was a reminder of the power of the arts to bring us together, inspire confidence, and spark imagination. Let us all keep celebrating creativity!

Wahroonga Adventist Church was filled with bucket loads of colour and creativity during our annual Dress-up Parade held on the morning of Monday, August 18. Dozens of adventurous book characters came out to play including Grug, Charlie Bucket, Gangsta Granny, Gumnut babies and Moses, along with so many more, delighting the students, teachers and parents who came to watch the wonderful spectacle. We thank you for all the effort put into creating these special memory moments for the students.

Second-hand Book Sale
Book Week concluded with great excitement last Friday with the opportunity to pick up a bargain at our second-hand book sale. Thanks to the generosity of our school community hundreds of books were donated to stock our sale. Well over 250 books were sold on the day, which resulted in a total of $500 raised from our dress-up parade, the book sale, along with a little extra from the library, all to go to ‘Reading Out of Poverty’ to create pop-up libraries in remote communities in Far North Queensland. The book donations that weren’t sold on the day will be collected by Carli Jeffrey to distribute at schools in Papua New Guinea.

Library Bag – Years 5 & 6:
Brenden Lovett and Suzanne Milne will soon be working with our Year 5 and 6 cohort to prepare and record their ‘Library Bag’ podcasts where the students interview each other about what they are reading. These fascinating interviews will be broadcast on the Library WebAPP in Term 4.
